HISTORY

Located in Meriden for over 20 years, this manufacturer of precision machined parts and components has not only developed a rapport with the farming and industrial communities, a reputation for precision as well as excellence in craftsmanship, but also the forethought and drive to keep abreast of technology.

In 1977, Jim Surritt was a 36-year old machinist working for Goodyear in Topeka. Intending to open a garage workshop after retirement, Jim began acquiring machinery and equipment and storing it in his garage. The proposed retirement came sooner than expected and in 1980, he and his wife, Carol, converted their overflowing garage into a functional machine shop. Developing a solid clientele from the local farming and business community, Meriden Machine Shop grew and thrived. Their daughter Kelly, one of the few female machinists in the area, began working for them in 1989. Seven more employees rapidly followed. In 1993, Meriden Machine Shop incorporated and purchased a larger building. After extensive renovations and expansion, the available floor space went from 1100 sq. ft. to 6400 sq. ft. Many changes took place in 1997 and 1998 at Meriden Machine Shop, Inc. Seeing the advancements in machining technology, the Surritts purchased full computerized CNC mill and lathe equipment that is designed to decrease production time while increasing the degree of comlexity involved in product manufacturing. A 14' x 26' x 9' paint booth, a 42' Okuma lathe and a Cold Black Oxide system were also added to the shop during this period. An additional building expansion of 8000 sq. ft. created the much needed floor space to house the equipment and inventory.

Meeting the needs of our clients with skill, promptness and the latest in advanced technology has always been the goal of Meriden Machine Shop, Inc. Upholding the standards of precision and exellence of craftsmanship in each and every part produced, Meriden Machine Shop, Inc. has consistently and steadfastly achieved that goal.
